HELENA — Every year, the Helena Exchange Club honors a local law enforcement officer who makes significant contributions to the safety and well-being of the community.
Learn about this year's recipient below:
On Thursday, Sergeant Jacob Scavone with the Helena Police Department was named the 2026 Law Enforcement Officer of the Year.
Scavone has been with HPD for nine years, serves in the patrol division, helps lead SWAT, and is heavily involved with the department's K-9s.
“Why I do what I do has always been a reflection of community care-taking, making sure I am here for those who need it in an emergency and those who want to talk to a police officer when it is non-emergent,” Scavone said.

He also said the award was a complete surprise and “it is great to see all my friends, and peers, and the community for this recognition is incredible.”
Helena Police Department Captain Adam Shanks noted Scavone’s growth over the years and how he now teaches young officers with professionalism.
Sergeant Scavone received a check for $1,000; $500 will be given to HPD, and the other to his charity of choice.
The annual award is just one piece of the Helena Exchange Club’s mission of working together to make the community a better place to live through programs of service in Americanism, service, youth activities, and the prevention of child abuse.
