HELENA — A group of community quilters is making sure every student has a small comfort and a sense of care when they visit the nurse’s office.
“I think it will make kids feel better because they are made by people who care,” Warren fifth grader Brooklyn Doppler said.

Those people, the Friendship Quilters, made 65 quilts to distribute to all Helena elementary schools and 3 schools in East Helena.
“I hope that they look at it and they feel it. It is something tangible from the community that says we care,” Friendship Quilter Pamela Walter said.
It all started when the group found out that the nurse’s office at Warren Elementary did not have a blanket, and wanted to ensure that every school in the area was taken care of.
“For one comfort, because there is nothing as cozy as curling up with a quilt, which of course I am a little partial to because I love quilts,” another quilter, Pamela Gimnich, added.
Now, the quilters say there is certainly a need in the community, and fabric can be donated to Echo Church so they can continue their mission.
