HELENA — A water main break on Broadway and Jackson has shut off water to residents, businesses, and the Lewis and Clark County Detention Center.

“The inmates need water; they need it for using the toilet, they need to use it for showering, they need to use it for drinking, and my detention officers need to be cared for,” Lewis and Clark County Sheriff Leo Dutton said.
Currently, porta potties are being brought in, and Safeway donated bottled water for inmates and staff.
According to the city, the break happened around 2 p.m. Thursday, and they hope to have water up and running no later than 2 a.m. Friday.
The jail does have a contingency plan in place if water is not restored soon.
